A Nikkei xTECH survey of roughly 80 data center operators found that 24 companies plan 38 new builds and expansions between 2026 and 2030. Five projects exceed 100 MW of power capacity, and more than half support liquid cooling for the latest GPU servers. Of the 35 projects with confirmed locations, 13 sit outside both Greater Tokyo and Greater Osaka — Tomakomai, Ishikari, Yuzawa, Wakkanai, Oga. Japan's data center construction map is being redrawn.
